Mediterranean Cruise
Mediterranean Cruise is an activities project that re-enacts a holiday atmosphere in our care homes. Launched in 2006,
more than 100 Bupa care homes vividly recreated the look and feel of a cruise ship for a six week Mediterranean voyage.
They ‘set sail’ from the port of Liverpool and ‘passengers’ experienced the delights of Bordeaux, Barcelona, Venice,
Athens and Casablanca. These destinations were brought to life through a variety of activities:
- Deck games such as quoits, putting, and shuffle board were available to play.
- Performances ranging from flamenco dancing to Italian opera, Beatles favourites to the cancan.
- Residents were able to brush up on their lingo by using provided key words and phrases in the native tongue of each country
visited.
- Music from the countries featured in the itinerary was played within the homes.
- Postcards were provided for residents to send to their relatives.
- Home catering teams cooked up popular local dishes including ‘Scouse’ stew from Liverpool, moussaka from Greece and
a Moroccan lamb tagine.
- A gala dinner was held, complete with the captain’s table – a fitting finale to this special trip.
