Living History involves individual care homes and their residents completing a project around the theme of reminiscence, which is a perfect way for staff to appreciate and recognise the individuality of our residents, and be reminded that they are people with a long personal and social past.
It allows our staff to be able to relate to the residents they look after on a day to day basis and discover things about their life experiences, family, interests and personal strengths. It also supports our staff in providing the ultimate in individual care and in forming personal bonds with residents.
Living History was launched in 2004 and more than 90 Bupa care homes have taken part, producing a variety of reminiscence features including books of memories, themed rooms and memory murals.
Each Bupa care home is asked to involve at least one community partner in the activity to strengthen its relationship with the local area and is given a supporting grant to spend on materials.
