Designed to tackle the issue of loneliness in older people, Bupa Communi-tea week was launched in 2007 and is sponsored by Tetleys and McVities.
During Bupa’s Communi-tea week, older people who live on their own in the local community are invited into the care home to meet the residents and join in the fun and informative tea-related activities, from tea tasting and tea leaf reading to tea at the Ritz and tea dances!
In 2007, 260 homes took part in the event with many co-ordinated activities taking place to support Parkinson's Awareness Week, raising funds for the Parkinson's Disease Society.
The event takes place every spring and each participating home receives a Communi-tea week pack containing posters, invites, specialty teas and biscuits, as well as a grant to help with entertainment for the day.
