Bupa continues to expand with purchase of care homes in Somerset

3 December 2007

Bupa Care Services today announced that it has acquired Belmont Care Limited which owns two nursing homes in north Somerset. The purchase takes Bupa up to 303 care homes in the UK and further consolidates its position as one of the country’s leading care home operators.

Belmont Care Limited operates two homes: Elm View Nursing Home in Clevedon, Somerset, has 46 registered beds and was purpose built for the care of frail older people in 2000. Norewood Lodge was completed in 1995 and is situated in a residential area of Portishead, Somerset, and has 48 registered beds. The two homes employ a total of around 150 staff.

Rob Kinsman, Director of the Care Division of Christie + Co, who acted on behalf of the sellers commented, “We are delighted to be part of Bupa’s continuing expansion. The sale of Belmont Care Limited was agreed amongst strong interest from many operators.”

Bupa Care Homes Managing Director, Mark Ellerby said:
“The acquisition will further strengthen our business, especially in the Bristol and north Somerset area, and demonstrates our commitment to the long-term care sector.

“Both homes will be good additions for Bupa as they have dedicated teams of people providing their residents with high-quality care in welcoming and comfortable settings.

“Our strategy is to extend homes where practical, build new homes where possible, and acquire homes where appropriate. We look forward to working with our new colleagues to continue to provide the highest levels of care to our residents.”

Bupa purchased the entire share capital of Belmont Care Limited, which includes the trade and freehold properties.
